Course Details

 

Course Description

The course is open to undergraduate students in the Conservatory, with intensive work in advanced composition in the medium forms for various vocal and instrumental ensembles as the final project. There will be weekly group meeting or private lessons according to students’ needs and requests. Every student should present his/her work in progress weekly.  The submission deadline of the final project is 12/8/2026 via email. Composers Forum attendance and original music performed in live concerts is required.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will create at least one portfolio work with large chamber ensemble instrumentation of the student’s choosing (may also use electronics) with score notation, 7-12 minutes suggested minimum. The score will be professionally prepared, which will be delivered in digital format.
  • Students will explore unique areas in the student’s portfolio not previously represented.
  • Students will expand composition techniques in service of expressing ideas.
  • Students’ ideas in both sound (composition) and verbal expression (speaking) will be articulated.
  • Students will collaborate with others and have original works performed.

 

Evaluation and Grading Criteria

  • Attendance of weekly class meetings or private lessons = 30%
  • Presentation of assignments and active participation in classroom discussions = 30%
  • On-time submission of completed final project = 20%
  • Ability of collaboration with other artists and has music performed= 20%
  • Completion of the Conservatory’s on-line evaluation of the course before the deadline.
